Sorrel

Sorrel (Rumex acetosa), also known as common sorrel or garden sorrel, is a perennial herb in the family Polygonaceae. Native to Eurasia, it grows in grasslands and is cultivated as a leaf vegetable or herb. The plant reaches about 60 cm (24 in) tall, with deep roots, arrow‑shaped leaves forming a rosette, and a membranous ocrea (fused stipules). Upper leaves are sessile and often turn crimson. It bears whorled spikes of reddish‑green flowers in early summer; the species is dioecious (male and female flowers on separate plants
