False Unicorn (Chamaelirium luteum) Common Names: Blazing star, devil's bit, fairy wand, starwort, helonias root A perennial herb native to the eastern United States, found in wet meadows and deciduous woodlands. It features a basal rosette of leaves with a single spike-like raceme of flowers, reaching up to 1.2 meters (4 feet) tall. The plant is dioecious, with male and female flowers on separate plants. It is the only species in its genus and is rare at the edges of its range. Traditionally used in Western herbalism, particularly for reproductive health and hormonal support. Warning: False unicorn is considered an at-risk species in parts of its native range due to overharvesting. Source only from cultivated or sustainably wild-harvested suppliers.
